D Mannose

D Mannose

Other Names:

Mannose, D-manosa, Carubinose, Seminose

Nutrition:

D-mannose is a naturally occurring sugar closely related to glucose that is both found in several fruits such as cranberries, apples and peaches, and produced by the human body through the conversion of glucose into mannose.

Health Benefits:

Urinary Tract Support

D-mannose is well recognised for its ability to provide potent support for urinary tract health. Several clinical studies have evidenced the efficacy of D-mannose in the prevention of recurrent UTIs, with one study mentioning its effectiveness being possibly similar to that of antibiotics. Research has indicated that the oral intake of d-mannose can competitively inhibit bacterial adhesion to the urothelium, and this is a suggested mechanism of the protective effects of d-mannose on urinary health.

Typical Use:

D-mannose is often used for health supplements aimed at supporting urinary tract health, and in these supplements it is sometimes combined with cranberry extract, probiotics, or vitamin C to provide more comprehensive urinary tract support.
