Time Health Becomes First Supplement Manufacturer to Sign Antarctic Krill Pledge

Time Health, a UK-based supplement manufacturer and retailer, has signed the Antarctic Krill Pledge, a global initiative led by Sea Shepherd and retailer Holland & Barrett, and has committed to removing all krill-derived products from its range, with the phase-out now underway. Following an internal review, Time Health has ceased further sourcing of krill-derived ingredients and confirmed that it will not develop any new krill-based products in the future. Existing stock will be sold through over the coming months, with a full phase-out expected by summer 2026. By signing the Antarctic Krill Pledge, Time Health becomes the first supplement manufacturer to publicly commit to removing krill from its product portfolio. Krill play a fundamental role in the Antarctic marine ecosystem, serving as a primary food source for a wide range of species including whales, penguins and seals. Recognising the ecological importance of krill has developed, Time Health has taken a considered and forward-looking approach. A spokesperson for Time Health commented: “As our understanding of the environmental considerations surrounding krill harvesting has developed, we have taken the decision to sign Sea Shepherd’s Antarctic Krill Pledge and phase out krill-derived products. As a business, we support initiatives focused on protecting and restoring critical ecosystems that support carbon capture, and it became increasingly clear that continuing to manufacture products containing krill was not aligned with this direction. While there are differing views within the regulatory landscape, we recognise the ecological importance of krill within the Antarctic ecosystem and believe it is the right time to take a proactive position.” The company noted that this decision reflects its broader approach to responsible sourcing, with sustainability forming a key consideration in ingredient selection and product development. Time Health continues to review its supply chain and invest in alternative solutions that align with evolving environmental standards and customer expectations. Customers currently using krill-based products will continue to have access to existing stock during the transition period. Time Health already offers a range of alternative formulations, including algae-based omega-3, astaxanthin and plant-based phospholipids, providing customers with established options as the phase-out progresses. Peter Hammarstedt, Director of Campaigns at Sea Shepherd Global, said: "Sea Shepherd applauds Time Health for becoming the first supplement manufacturer to sign the Antarctic Krill Pledge, joining retailer Holland & Barrett in committing to end the production and sale of krill-based products. Protecting Antarctica demands decisive leadership across the entire nutraceutical industry - from retailers to suppliers - and Time Health’s example sets a clear standard for other producers to follow." This decision reflects Time Health’s intention to take a considered and responsible approach within the supplement industry, and to help shape more sustainable practices in ingredient sourcing.
