Berberine

What is Berberine?

Berberine is a natural bioactive compound that can be found within a range of plants including barberry, goldenseal and Oregon grape. While standard berberine has poor natural absorption and bioavailability, research has led to the development of specialized formulations designed to increase berberines absorption rate in the body. For instance, our Berberine Phytosome® is produced using Berbevis® berberine which has an optimised bioabsorption profile, offering 10x the bioavailability of standard berberine thanks to its unique phytosomal delivery method.

Health Benefits:

Supports Metabolic Health:

Berberine has been repeatedly shown to have numerous beneficial effects on metabolic health. For example, studies show that berberine improves insulin sensitivity in individuals with insulin resistance, supporting healthy blood glucose regulation. Research also indicates that berberine may have powerful anti-obesity activity through brown adipose tissue activation and white-to-brown adipocytes conversion. Additionally, research shows that berberine can lower cholesterol levels through the inhibition of intestinal absorption, promoting the excretion of cholesterol, and stimulating the removal of harmful LDL cholesterol from the blood.

Supports Cardiovascular Health

Berberine is believed to support overall cardiovascular health and help to protect against heart failure, hypertension and arrhythmia. Research indicates that berberine can dilate blood vessels, decrease blood pressure and small clinical trials have evidenced that berberine has antihyperlipidemic effects in humans. Furthering this, animal models suggest that treatment with berberine can reduce the degree of heart failure.

History:

Berberine has a long history of use across several traditional medical systems, such as traditional Chinese medicine and Ayurveda medicine. Typically berberine was used for its believed ability to support digestion, treat gastrointestinal issues, fight infections and support overall vitality.

Typical Use:

Berberine's impressive health benefits have led to its common use in capsule and tablet form health supplements. Often such supplements are formulated to provide powerful metabolic and cardiovascular health support.
